As a Dunedin schoolboy, Timothy loved his rugby and he remembers the year that his team won the local league. They were rewarded with a trip to Carisbrook to meet the All Blacks and watch them play Scotland.

Later, with Andersens Bay Sea Scouts he captained his sailing crew to win the finals of the New Zealand 17-foot cutters trophy in Auckland during the big hurricane. The waves swamped their boat at the start but they managed to refloat it  and come from behind to win the race as the first of only three out of fifteen crews to complete the course.

Timothy was variously involved in Air Training Corps, Swimming (Otag Rep), was elected President of a local Swimming Club, plays Lawn Bowls (Regional & National Finals) and  is a volunteer for Community activities..He gained his Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award and is approved as an Expedition Leader because of his bushcraft training and outdoors tramping experience. He has also been involved in leadership roles of many youth adventure camps across the South Island including the rugged more challenging all weather environments of the Arthurs Pass, Methven, and Wanaka regions.

In academics Timothy was an advanced student who was bored at state school which was misread as under-achieving by well intentioned but uninformed teachers. He then transferred to the international ACE curriculum which allows for a linear learning approach to  education rather than the state cyclical teaching approach. Timothy then excelled as a student and obtained the University-recognised ACE Year 13 NZ Certificate to gain University Entrance two years ahead of his state-sector peers.

Timothy then applied to join the NZ Army Officer scheme which had been a childhood ambition and his goal. He was turned down because they did not believe that he would have the ability to apply himself in the military environment, specifically quoting his education experience. They were familiar with and preferred to recruit from the state sector education system and were not equipped to deal with advanced students from alternative NZ approved education systems.

Timothy overcame his disappointment, gained suitable employment and initially funded himself through Otago University, later gaining scholarships to continue his studies. He completed his BSC (Maths and Physics with Dip Grad (Maths) and then cross-credited TeachNZ and other qualifications to gain his BA in Education. During this time he also set aside a year to gain experience in working with challenged youth including working with local schools, mentoring an autistic young person through high school to University and additionally  gained  national certificates in Health, Swimming and Lifeguarding..

His current activities extend to direct or online tutoring of groups and individuals at all levels in Maths, Physics, & Statistics, running math extension classes based on the Australian Math Competition and the University of Otago's Problem Challenge Series and National Bank Junior Math Competion, Exam papers creation & marking, Curriculum provider and adviser, Health & Safety education, advanced Swim Instructor. He is in demand by local schools and Tertiary Institutions because of his wide skill-set and ability to work in a diversity of environments.
